Pattaya’s aquarium runs a 100-metre glass tunnel straight through its main tank, so you walk beneath sharks, rays, and shoals of tropical fish rather than just looking at them through glass. More than 5,000 sea creatures are spread across the facility’s themed zones, from shallow reef tanks near the entrance to the darker, deeper displays further in. Adult entry is 550 THB — the same rate for Thai and foreign visitors — and it’s open daily from 9am to 6pm with last admission at 5:30pm.

The tunnel is the reason most people come, and it holds up: groupers the size of coffee tables cruise past at eye level, and dense schools of silver fish wheel overhead in formation. Touch pools let kids handle starfish and small rays under staff supervision, and feeding shows run at set times through the day — check the board near the entrance for the day’s schedule rather than assuming a fixed time, since it shifts around visitor numbers. Nurse sharks, sea turtles, and a scattering of otters round out the exhibits between the tunnel sections.

Watch out: The galleries run cool to protect the animals and the equipment — a light jacket makes the 1.5-2 hour walkthrough more comfortable, especially for kids.

It’s fully air-conditioned and indoors throughout, which makes it a reliable fallback when Pattaya’s afternoon rain rolls in between June and October. The lighting is deliberately dim to mimic ocean depth, so photos come out better with a phone camera’s night mode than with flash, which isn’t allowed near the main tank in any case. Weekday mornings right after the 9am opening are noticeably quieter than afternoons, when tour groups from the beach hotels tend to arrive in blocks.

The aquarium sits on Sukhumvit Road about 3km north of Pattaya Beach, a 10-15 minute taxi or motorbike taxi from most hotels in town, or reachable by songthaew running up Sukhumvit. For another indoor, family-friendly option nearby on a rainy day, Ripley’s Believe It or Not and the Pattaya Dolphinarium are both a short ride away.
