3 Fun Dives King Cruiser Wreck and Koh DokMai for Certified diver

Activity provider: Phuket Dive Provider

Highlights

  • PADI Open Water certification course
  • Small-group format throughout
  • Thai lunch at a local restaurant
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off included

Certification is required before booking — this is a fun-dive trip for already-qualified divers, not a course, and the King Cruiser Wreck’s 30-metre depth puts it beyond Open Water limits. A minimum Advanced Open Water card is the actual gate here, which makes it a step up from the same operator’s sibling trip to Racha Yai and Racha Noi, open to any certified diver at shallower reef sites off Phuket.

The day covers three dives across three sites — the King Cruiser Wreck itself, Shark Point, and Koh Doc Mai — with the order set on the day around weather and current. Guides split divers into groups of three or four, and each dive runs up to 50 minutes. The full day, including transfers, comes to about 9 hours.

Meet at Chalong Pier’s car park, where the instructor waits by the lighthouse at the top of the stairs. Free transfers cover Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata, Rawai, Nai Harn, and Chalong; breakfast, lunch, a soft drink, full scuba equipment, and comprehensive diving insurance are included in the $175.51 price. A dive computer, alcohol, and underwater photos or video are not — bring your own computer or rent one on arrival.

The operator’s health screening is extensive: cardiovascular issues, pregnancy, spinal injuries, asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, heart disease, recent surgery, and ear or lung conditions all need medical clearance before the trip. Divers are also asked to avoid alcohol for 8 hours beforehand and to wait at least 18 hours — 24 recommended — before flying after the last dive. At 4.9 from just 10 reviews, the rating is strong but the sample size is small.

Key Facts:
  • Certification required: Yes — minimum Advanced Open Water (King Cruiser Wreck sits at 30m)
  • Dive sites: King Cruiser Wreck, Shark Point, Koh Doc Mai (3 dives)
  • Duration: 9 hours including transfers
  • Price from: $175.51
  • Group size: 3-4 divers per guide
  • Meeting point: Chalong Pier parking, by the lighthouse

Watch out: The health questionnaire covers a long list of conditions, from asthma to heart disease to recent surgery — anyone with a relevant history should get medical sign-off before the day, not at the pier.
