Railay and 4-Island Sunset Speedboat Cruise with Night Snorkel
Availability checked
The bioluminescent plankton around Krabi glow green when the water is disturbed — run your hand through them after dark and the splash lights up. This six-and-a-half-hour speedboat tour from Railay and the 4 Islands is built around two snorkelling sessions: one in daylight on the reefs, and a second one at night for the plankton. That second snorkel is what separates this tour from the cheaper daytime-only circuit, and it’s the reason you book this one specifically.
You meet at Nopparat Thara Pier — Grand Centara Resort guests have a free meeting point at 11:55am. The speedboat runs first through the 4 Islands circuit: Chicken Island for the offshore rock formation, Poda and Tub Islands for the sandbar at low tide, and snorkelling stops on the way. A beach buffet lunch is served with vegetarian options available by advance request. As the afternoon eases toward evening, you head over to Phranang Beach at Railay for a snack dinner with the sunset, then into the water again for the bioluminescent session once it’s dark enough for the plankton to show. Certified guide, live commentary, fish ID briefing, national park fees, life jackets, and snorkel gear are all in the price. The speedboat format lets the operator reach spots a longtail can’t, and they’re the only tour running this night-snorkel route by speedboat.
Six and a half hours, moderate difficulty, capped at 17 adults and 2 kids. Most of the activity is water-based — bring a rashguard, reef-safe sunscreen, and a change of clothes for the ride home. Railay, Krabi Town, Klong Muang, and Tub Kaek transfers are extra.
Dry season (November to April) is the window. The plankton are visible most months but the water clarity on the moonless nights in the dry months is noticeably better.
