Ban Mekkala is a six-bedroom beachfront villa at Bang Kao, near Laem Sor on Koh Samui’s south coast, designed by architect David Clarke around a 20-metre T-shaped pool. It sleeps 12 to 14, has a spa room, a jacuzzi, kayaks and bikes, and comes with breakfast and staff. The airport is 25 km north.
Pavilions round a T-shaped pool
The upper pavilion holds the lounge, the dining area and a gourmet kitchen with a dishwasher, plus a small library and surround sound. All six bedrooms are on the lower level, each air-conditioned with a TV, a mini fridge and its own bathroom. Four have king beds and two have twin beds; some open onto outdoor courtyards, and some have walk-in showers or bathtubs.
The pool measures 20 by 8.5 metres, with a shallow zone and a jacuzzi, and a sunken pavilion beside it serves as the outdoor dining room. Beyond is a beachfront garden with a hammock and a projector screen for films. Kayaks, a paddleboard, four bikes and beach games are all included.
Insider Tip: Walk the shore at low tide. The rock pools in front of the villa keep children busy for hours, and Phuttha Chedi Laem Sor, the gold pagoda on the rocks, is about a kilometre west.
