Baan Rim Pa (Patong)

Baan Rim Pa occupies teak Thai-style rooms on the Kalim cliffs at 249/4-5 Prabaramee Road, looking south across Patong Bay. It is the west-coast counterpoint to Old Town heritage houses: Royal Thai cooking with a bay outlook rather than a beach-strip grill in central Patong.

Every table faces water in some form. The ones you actually want for sunset still need a spoken request. Do not treat a same-day walk-in in high season as a plan.

Cliffside setting and sunset booking

Kalim sits just north of Patong. The restaurant hangs above the Andaman with a wide bay view. Evenings add a piano bar and cocktail service. For sunset colour on the water, book a seating around 17:30–18:00 and say ocean-view table when you reserve. Online forms need 24 hours’ notice. Shorter lead times go by phone.

Rain and haze can flatten the view. If the sky looks grey, the cooking and piano bar still carry the evening, but you may care less about the exact rim seat.

Insider Tip: Lunch is easier to walk into. Dinner in November–April is the hard product. Reserve early and accept that the best rim tables go first.

What to order

The published Royal Thai card includes yaam som-o (herbed pomelo salad with chicken and prawns), tom yaam goong / tiger-prawn soups, and gaeng massaman with chicken or beef. Soft language only for creamy tom yum variants and other court-style plates. Confirm the live menu rather than an old blog list. Older write-ups sometimes name a lamb massaman; the current public menu shows chicken or beef, so ask rather than assume. No prices on this page.

The piano and cocktail bar is half the evening for many tables. The wine list is a secondary draw if you are celebrating. Seafood and vegetarian plates also appear on the official cards if you need them.

Getting there and nearby

Taxi or Grab from central Patong up Prabaramee into Kalim, usually 10–15 minutes depending on traffic. Pair with a daytime look at Kalim Beach if you are already on the headland.
