Science Center and Planetarium Chainat Bird Park

The Science Center and Planetarium sits inside Chainat Bird Park’s grounds on Phahon Yothin Road, in Mueang Chai Nat district — a government-run astronomy and science-education building that opened in 2008 alongside the older aviary next door. Reported admission tracks the bird park’s own ticket, since both sit on the same complex: 150 THB for foreign adults (75 THB for children), 60 THB for Thai adults (25 THB for children). It’s open daily, roughly 09:00-16:00.

Inside, a 40-seat dome uses a digital star projector to run shows on the solar system, constellations, and the night sky, alongside exhibition space covering Thai astronomical history, telescopes, and the layers of the atmosphere. A handful of 3D films screen alongside the star shows. It’s a modest facility by the standards of Bangkok’s planetarium, but it gives Chainat a proper astronomy venue where otherwise there’d be none, and it works well paired with a bird park visit since the two sit metres apart.

Because the science center shares a name and a gate with the bird park, it’s easy to assume it’s simply part of the aviary — it isn’t. The exhibits and dome shows are self-contained, aimed at school groups and families more than casual passers-by, and weekday mornings bring the heaviest footfall from organised class visits.

Insider Tip: Check the dome show schedule at the entrance before you start on the bird park — showtimes run on a fixed schedule through the day, and it’s easy to miss one if you’re absorbed in the aviary.

Watch out: Hours and pricing for the planetarium specifically aren’t as consistently listed online as the bird park’s — call ahead (0 5647 6617) if you’re travelling any distance just for the science center.
