Chillva Market

Chillva Market is the night market young Phuket Town actually goes to. Built from rows of colourful shipping containers turned into shopfronts, it sits on Yaowarat Road a short drive north of the Old Town, and trades a mostly local, student-heavy crowd rather than the tour-group traffic of the island’s beach markets. Come for the food, the fashion stalls, and an evening that feels genuinely Phuket.

What to Eat

The food is the heart of it. Stalls cook proper Thai street food — grilled seafood, pad thai, moo ping skewers, sticky rice with mango — next to trendier additions like bubble tea, Korean snacks, and dessert bars. Prices are low even by Phuket Town standards, and because the crowd is local, the cooking is aimed at people who know the difference. Pull up a stool, order across a few stalls, and graze.

Shopping

The container units house independent fashion, vintage clothing, accessories, and the odd craft and plant seller. The dedicated flea market runs Thursday to Saturday, when the clothing side is at its fullest — those are the nights to come if you want to shop as well as eat. Midweek is quieter and more food-focused.

When to Go

Arrive after 18:00, once the air has cooled and the containers light up. Thursday to Saturday are busiest and best for the full market; Monday to Wednesday are calmer. Avoid Sunday, when it is closed.

Getting There

Chillva is on Yaowarat Road, roughly 10 minutes by car or scooter north of the Phuket Old Town. A Grab from the Old Town is cheap; from the beaches (Patong, Kata, Karon) it is a 30–45 minute drive, so it pairs best with a night already spent in town.

Combine it with an earlier wander through the Phuket Town Walking Street (the Sunday Lard Yai market on Thalang Road) or the Old Town’s Sino-Portuguese streets and café scene before heading up to Chillva for dinner.
