Naka Weekend Market
ตลาดนาคา
Naka Weekend Market is the biggest weekend night market in Phuket, running Saturday and Sunday evenings from about 4pm to 10pm on Wirat Hong Yok Road, on the edge of Phuket Town near Central Festival. Entry is free. It sells street food, cheap clothing, phone cases, souvenirs and secondhand goods across a covered indoor hall and a large open-air lot. Locals still call it by its old name, the Chaofa Variety Weekend Market.
What’s sold
The market splits roughly in two. A covered hall holds clothing, shoes, bags, phone accessories and household goods, while the open-air section outside is the food and secondhand zone — Thai plates, grilled skewers, Japanese and Western snacks, fresh juices and racks of used gear. Prices are aimed at local shoppers as much as tourists, so a plate of food is usually 40–100 THB and simple clothing starts around 100–200 THB.
Insider Tip: Come hungry and eat your way round rather than sitting down for one meal — the point of the place is grazing across dozens of stalls. Bring cash in small notes; most vendors don’t take cards.
When to go
It only opens Saturday and Sunday, 4pm to 10pm. Arrive close to opening if you’re driving — the car park fills fast and it’s far easier to find a space early. By 6–7pm the covered hall gets hot and shoulder-to-shoulder busy, which is part of the atmosphere but hard work with young children or in a hurry.
Watch out: The indoor section has little airflow and gets very warm once the crowds build. Take water, and don’t expect much English at the stalls — a translation app helps for anything beyond pointing and haggling.
Getting there
The market is in Wichit, near Central Festival mall, about 5–10 minutes by car or scooter from Phuket Old Town. Many evening Phuket tours that take in the Big Buddha and Promthep Cape sunset finish at a night market, so it can slot into a wider island evening. A quick temple stop at Wat Chalong pairs well earlier in the day.
