Phuket Town Walking Street

Lard Yai — Phuket Town Walking Street — takes over Thalang Road in Phuket Old Town every Sunday, and only Sunday, from around 16:00 to 22:00. Vendors set up stalls along the road’s Sino-Portuguese shophouse row, closing it to traffic for the evening; on any other day of the week this is a normal street lined with cafes and shops, not a market.

The draw is southern Thai street food eaten standing up: grilled skewers, noodle dishes, regional desserts, and fresh fruit stalls sit alongside handicraft vendors, clothing stalls, and the occasional live music or dance performance set up along the route. Entry is free — you only pay for what you eat or buy. The market runs the length of Thalang Road and spills into a few side sois, so figure at least an hour to walk it properly and stop for food along the way.

Insider Tip: Arrive close to the 16:00 start if you want clear shots of the pastel shophouse facades before the crowd builds. By 18:00 the street is at full capacity and moving slowly is the only option.

Watch out: Because it only runs one evening a week, some tour itineraries and older travel posts describe it as a daily or nightly market — it isn’t. Turning up on a Tuesday evening means an empty street.

The market sits inside Phuket Old Town, whose shophouse architecture and museums are worth a daytime visit on top of the Sunday market itself. Base yourself in Phuket Town to combine both without needing transport.
