Serious buyers move stall to stall assessing parcels for cutters and jewelers back home, and most of the real business happens between people who already know each other. Casual visitors are welcome to watch and browse the finished-jewelry side, but buying loose stones as a bargain “investment” without expertise is a well-worn way for amateur buyers to lose money anywhere in Thailand, and the same caution applies here.

Saturday is the busiest of the three trading days, with the market running roughly 10 AM to 3 PM. Insider Tip: go for the atmosphere and the finished-jewelry stalls rather than expecting to strike a deal on rough stones — that side of the market runs on relationships built over years, not walk-up bargaining. Watch out: don’t buy loose “rare” stones from street vendors as an investment unless you can verify them independently; that’s a long-standing scam risk across Thailand, not specific to this market, but the volume of stone here makes it a place where it comes up.
