Hat Ban Krut

Hat Ban Krut runs for roughly 8 km along the Gulf of Thailand in Prachuap Khiri Khan province’s Bang Saphan district, one bay north of the better-known Bang Saphan beach. It’s a working fishing beach rather than a resort strip — longtail boats still land their catch here, and the handful of guesthouses and seafood restaurants along the beach road stay small-scale.

At the northern end, Khao Thongchai rises above the sand, topped by Wat Tang Sai, a temple built in 1996 for King Bhumibol’s 50th year on the throne. A 15-metre golden Buddha there is visible from most of the beach and doubles as the area’s main landmark and sunset viewpoint. The beach itself sits on the Thong Chai subdistrict coastline: fine sand, generally calm Gulf water suited to swimming, and enough length that you can walk away from any cluster of guesthouses and have a stretch to yourself.

Ban Krut has its own train station, about a 20-minute walk inland from the beach road — a rarity for a Thai beach town and the reason some visitors choose it over drive-only alternatives. The Special Express #43 leaves Bangkok’s Krungthep Aphiwat Central Station at 07:30 and arrives just after midday, making a car-free trip realistic.

Insider Tip: Fishing boats come in early, typically before 8am — that’s when the catch gets sorted straight on the sand and the beachfront restaurants buy the morning’s seafood, so it’s also the freshest time to eat.

Watch out: Shade is limited to scattered palms and restaurant umbrellas, and there’s no beach-chair rental scene here the way there is at bigger resort beaches — bring your own sun protection for a full day out.

Facilities stay basic by design: small family-run restaurants, a few guesthouses, and simple parking along the beach road, rather than a developed tourist strip. That’s the trade-off for the quiet.
