Kat Doi Ti

Kat Doi Ti runs along the Chiang Mai–Lampang superhighway on the edge of Lamphun town, and its real draw isn’t food — it’s the province’s handicrafts, gathered from districts that don’t otherwise get a shopfront in town. Yok dok brocade weave, Lamphun’s signature raised-pattern silk, hangs alongside hand-carved wood from Mae Tha district, handwoven cotton from Pa Sang district, and hill-tribe silver jewellery from Li district. Local produce and everyday goods fill out the rest of the stalls, but this is first and foremost where Lamphun’s outlying districts sell what they make.

The market runs open-air along a covered strip of stalls, busiest in the first couple of hours after opening when vendors restock and shoppers do their daily rounds before the heat builds. English is rare here — this is a working provincial market, not a tourist bazaar, so pointing and a phone translator go further than trying to negotiate in English. Textile stalls display bolts of yok dok cloth in the raised gold-and-maroon patterns Lamphun is known for nationally, while carved wooden pieces from Mae Tha range from small souvenirs to furniture-scale work.

Insider Tip: If you’re specifically after yok dok fabric, compare a few stalls before buying — quality and weight vary more than price does, and the better weaves sell out first in the morning.

Watch out: Don’t expect the food-market atmosphere of a night bazaar — Kat Doi Ti is quieter and more transactional, with vendors focused on turnover rather than lingering conversation.
