Khlong Nam Daeng Agricultural Reservoir

Khlong Nam Daeng Agricultural Reservoir is a working irrigation dam in Khlong Lan district, Kamphaeng Phet — built to store water for the surrounding rice paddies and farmland rather than for tourism, and it shows. There’s no visitor centre, no rental kayaks, no food stalls at the water’s edge. What it offers is a quiet walk along the dam wall, a look at how the reservoir is worked by the farming community it serves, and a decent stretch for birdwatching if herons and kingfishers interest you.

The reservoir sits in Pong Nam Ron subdistrict, part of a wider cluster of small irrigation reservoirs built around Khlong Lan to support local agriculture. Local fishermen use the water for subsistence and small-scale fishing, and the earthen dam doubles as a walking path with views over the water and the rice paddies beyond it. Birdlife is the main draw for anyone stopping specifically for this reservoir — herons and egrets work the shallows, and the surrounding fields are still worked by hand and buffalo in parts of the district.

Watch out: Don’t come expecting a scenic lake destination. This is agricultural infrastructure first — the water level, clarity, and access around the perimeter all depend on the irrigation season, and there’s nothing built for visitors beyond the dam walkway itself.

That said, it’s genuinely free and open daily from 06:00 to 18:00, and it costs nothing but a short detour to see if you’re already exploring Khlong Lan district. The dry season (roughly November to April) gives the clearest views and easiest walking around the dam; during the rainy season the reservoir fills and farm access roads can get muddy.
