Koh Ta Lang (Ta Lang Pinnacle)

Ko Ta Lang is a bare limestone pinnacle in the Adang-Rawi island group, a few kilometres east of Koh Lipe, better known to divers than sunbathers — there’s no beach or facilities, just a rock wall dropping into open Andaman water. The two named dive sites here, Talang Steps and Talang Wall, run to roughly 25 metres and are usually booked as a short add-on trip from Koh Lipe rather than a standalone excursion.

The pinnacle rises straight out of the seabed, its underwater walls carrying soft coral growth that draws comparisons to the reef gardens Koh Lipe is known for regionally. Talang Wall, on the site’s western face, is the deeper of the two named dives; Talang Steps offers a shallower profile that works for less experienced divers or a second dive of the day. Both sit close to Stonehenge, another named pinnacle-cluster dive site in the same stretch of water, and operators commonly pair the two on a single boat trip out of Koh Lipe. Above the surface there’s nothing but rock and open sea — no landing beach, no shade, no facilities of any kind.

Because it’s dive-first rather than beach-first, Ko Ta Lang isn’t on the standard Koh Lipe day-tour itinerary that stops at Sunrise and Sunset beaches — you need to book specifically with a dive operator, or a snorkel trip that names Ta Lang or Stonehenge on the itinerary. Visibility and current both depend on tide and season, so ask the operator about conditions on the day rather than assuming the calm-looking surface tells the whole story.

The pinnacle sits within the Adang-Rawi group of the wider Tarutao National Marine Park, the same island cluster that gives Koh Lipe its famously clear water and soft-coral cover. Dive shops based on Koh Lipe typically run Ta Lang and Stonehenge as part of a multi-site half-day or full-day boat trip rather than a single-site outing, so check the exact itinerary before booking if this specific pinnacle is the reason you’re going — some trips substitute other Adang-Rawi sites depending on conditions.

Insider Tip: If you’re not certified to dive, ask whether the boat also does a shallow snorkel pass around the pinnacle’s fringe before or after the dive — some Koh Lipe operators build this in as a add-on for non-divers travelling with a dive group.

Watch out: There’s no shelter or facilities at the site — bring reef-safe sunscreen, water, and anything else you need for the day, since you won’t be stepping onto land.
