Namtok Vibhavadi
น้ำตกวิภาวดี
Namtok Vibhavadi is a nine-tier waterfall in Vibhavadi district, in the hills of western Surat Thani inside Khlong Yan Wildlife Sanctuary — part of the same forested belt that includes Kaeng Krung National Park further south, though this isn’t the park’s main gated entrance and no park fee applies here. The second tier is the one worth the trip: a drop of roughly 15-20m into a pool deep enough for a proper swim, and the tier most local write-ups single out as the falls’ best feature. The remaining tiers, both above and below it, see far fewer visitors and involve more scrambling over wet rock to reach.
There’s no ticket booth or formal gate at Namtok Vibhavadi, unlike Kaeng Krung National Park’s own entrance near Tha Chang district, which does charge 100 THB for foreign visitors and 20 THB for Thai nationals. Local sources describe the site as a weekend gathering spot for people from the surrounding district rather than a tourist-oriented stop, which fits with the lack of any fee infrastructure — though that can change without much notice at Thai forest-reserve sites, so it’s worth asking locally if you’re visiting during a longer trip.
Watch out: rocks around the pools are slick even where they look dry, and the falls sit well off the main tourist circuit — mobile signal and English-language signage are both unreliable this far into Vibhavadi district, so a printed map or offline GPS pin is worth having.
Insider Tip: the second tier’s pool is the payoff; if time or energy is limited, aim directly for that level rather than trying to work through all nine in one visit.
Flow is strongest during and just after the rainy season, roughly June through December, when the upper tiers carry more water and the forest around them is at its greenest. By February to April the upper pools can thin out, though the main second-tier pool tends to hold enough for swimming even in the drier months. There are no shops, changing rooms, or food stalls at the site, so bring water, snacks, and a towel. From central Surat Thani, the falls sit a fair drive into Vibhavadi district’s interior — a car or motorbike is the practical way in, since there’s no dedicated public transport route to the falls themselves.
