Nang Rong Beach
หาดนางรอง
Nang Rong Beach sits inside a Royal Thai Navy area on the Samaesan coast of Sattahip, about an hour’s drive south of Pattaya. It runs alongside its twin beach, Hat Nang Ram, and the two are usually mentioned together — locals sometimes lump them as “Nang Ram-Nang Rong.” The water here is noticeably clearer than the beaches around central Pattaya, and that’s a direct result of the Navy controlling who builds what along this stretch, not an accident of geography.
Swimming close to shore, the sand bottom stays visible in shallow water and small fish are easy to spot without snorkel gear. There are basic beach chairs and food stalls near the entrance for a day trip, and the shallow gradient suits families more than surfers or divers. Because it’s a working naval facility rather than a tourism concession, don’t expect beach clubs or resort infrastructure — this is closer to a well-kept municipal beach than anything branded for tourists.
Watch out: Nang Rong Beach is inside an active military base, so treat it accordingly. Bring a passport or ID for gate checks, expect the beach to close entirely without warning during naval exercises, and don’t assume the access rules that applied on someone’s blog post last year still hold — call ahead if you’re planning a special trip around it rather than combining it with other Sattahip stops.
Entry has historically been charged per vehicle at the gate (around 20 THB for a car, motorbikes often waved through free) rather than per person, plus a small shuttle fee if you’re required to park at a checkpoint and transfer the last stretch by songthaew — the exact setup varies by day and by which gate is staffed. It’s a low enough cost either way that it isn’t the deciding factor in visiting.
Morning is the better window — sun isn’t yet overhead, and the naval area tends to get quieter as the day goes on rather than busier. There’s no BTS, bus route, or easy public transport option; you’ll need your own car or a pre-arranged taxi from Pattaya or Sattahip town.
