Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Center
ศูนย์อนุรักษ์พันธุ์เต่าทะเล กองทัพเรือ
The Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Center sits inside the Air and Coastal Defense Command base in Sattahip, where naval staff and marine biologists rehabilitate green and hawksbill turtles injured by fishing gear or boat strikes before releasing them back into the Gulf of Thailand. Entry is free, but you’ll need photo ID at the base checkpoint — tell the guard you’re visiting the turtle center and they’ll direct you in.
A series of open-air rehabilitation pools makes up the core of the visit, holding turtles at different stages of recovery — some missing a flipper, others still healing from propeller wounds. Signage around the pools explains turtle biology and the threats these animals face in Thai waters, and staff are generally happy to answer questions if you catch them between tasks. The center isn’t set up as a polished aquarium experience; it functions first as a working rehabilitation facility that happens to allow visitors, so expect a straightforward walk past the pools rather than a curated tour circuit.
Morning visits, roughly 9-11am, tend to catch more staff activity and turtle movement than the quieter midday stretch. Because the center sits on active naval land, the atmosphere is calmer and more orderly than a typical wildlife park — no crowds, no gift shop pressure, just the pools and the information boards.
Insider Tip: Bring small bills if you want to leave a donation — the center runs on them, and there’s no card reader at the gate.
Watch out: public transport doesn’t reach the base. Songthaews and buses don’t run this route, so budget for a taxi from Pattaya or build the visit into a private tour that also covers Sattahip.

Pair the visit with other Sattahip-area stops on the same trip out — HTMS Chakri Naruebet, the Royal Thai Navy’s decommissioned aircraft carrier, is nearby and shares the same military-base logistics, or continue on to Koh Samae San for a beach afternoon after the morning turtle visit.
