Nang Thong Beach (หาดนางทอง) is the central beach most first-time visitors mean when they say “Khao Lak beach” — a long Andaman stretch of golden sand with palm shade, scattered black rocks, and the La On village strip on Phet Kasem Road behind it. It belongs to Takua Pa district in Phang Nga, not to Phuket.
The vibe is family- and couple-friendly rather than party-strip. Beachfront restaurants and resort loungers line accessible stretches; further south the sand blends toward quieter Sunset Beach territory. North, Bang Niang Beach and the Bang Niang hub sit a short scooter ride away. Day trips to the Similan Islands typically pick up from hotels along this same coastal corridor.
Watch out: Depth and currents change with tide; monsoon months are not a guaranteed swim season. Confirm any ferry or rivermouth crossing fees on the day if you try a coast walk toward Bang Niang.
