National Science Museum

The National Science Museum’s main building at Technopolis, Pathum Thani, is hard to miss — three huge cubes standing on their points, fused along the edges, a design chosen partly to minimise wasted building material. Inside, 100 THB covers an adult ticket across the Science Museum, Natural History Museum and Information Technology Museum together, with no separate foreigner price and free entry for students up to 24 (with ID) and seniors 60+. It’s roughly an hour from central Bangkok by car, on the Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road in Khlong Luang district — not a spot you stumble into on a BTS afternoon.

Six themed floors run from an introduction to science and technology, through basic physics and energy, up to Thai innovation and everyday applications — heavy on touch-and-turn models rather than glass display cases. The Natural History Museum next door covers biodiversity and fossils, and the Information Technology Museum tracks computing history, so a full circuit of all three genuinely fills a half-day rather than an hour. Groups of Thai schoolchildren on field trips are the typical weekday crowd, which makes weekday mornings noticeably quieter than weekends.

Insider Tip: If you don’t have a car, NSM runs its own shuttle bus from Victory Monument in Bangkok for a separate fare — cheaper and less hassle than a return taxi, but check current departure times before you go since museum shuttle schedules shift.

Watch out: This is genuinely a school-trip destination on weekdays during term time — expect large groups of uniformed students moving between exhibits, which changes the pace if you’re hoping for a quiet browse.

The museum is closed every Monday, open Tuesday to Sunday 09:30-16:00. Budget at least two to three hours if you want to see more than one of the three museums properly, and bring a jacket — the exhibition halls run cold with air conditioning even in Bangkok’s hot season.
