Nong Kra Ting Park
สวนสาธารณะหนองกระทิง
Nong Kra Ting Park is Lampang’s main public park, built around a small lake about 3 km east of the old city, across the Wang River on the road toward Hang Chat. A paved path circles the lake for roughly 600 metres — enough for a proper morning loop without needing a car to reach a bigger green space. Entry is free, and the gates stay open from 6 AM to 8 PM.
The lake sits at the centre of the park, with shaded lawns and rain trees ringing its edge. Outdoor fitness stations — pull-up bars, leg presses, the usual Thai municipal-park kit — are spaced along the walking path, and a playground near the main entrance keeps kids busy while parents walk the loop. Locals bring their dogs here on leash; it’s one of the more relaxed public parks in the north for that. On weekend evenings, food carts set up near the entrance and the park picks up a burst of local energy that’s absent on weekday afternoons.
Insider Tip: Go before 7 AM. That’s when the lake path is busiest with Lampang residents doing their morning walk or jog, and the light is best for photos over the water — by mid-morning the heat empties the park out until the evening crowd returns.
Weekday mornings and evenings are the quietest times if you want the park mostly to yourself; weekend evenings are the liveliest, with families picnicking on the lawns and vendors selling grilled skewers and Thai desserts near the gates. The park has also hosted seasonal light and orchid festivals around December, when the grounds stay open later and fill with illuminated displays — worth checking what’s running locally if your visit lines up with that time of year.
Watch out: There’s very little shade directly over the lake path between 11 AM and 3 PM — bring a hat or water if you’re doing the full loop midday.

Nong Kra Ting Park isn’t a destination attraction on its own — it’s a genuinely local spot, useful as a break from Lampang’s temple circuit or an easy early-morning walk before the heat sets in. Pair it with a visit to Lampang’s old town for the horse-cart rides and teak shophouses the city is known for.
