Orchid Garden and Butterfly Farm

Bai Orchid & Butterfly Farm — listed here as the Orchid Garden and Butterfly Farm — combines greenhouse orchid displays with a netted butterfly enclosure near the Route 1096/107 junction in Mae Rim, about 10 km from central Chiang Mai. Entry runs around 60 THB, and it’s open daily from 07:30 to 17:00.

The orchid sections spread across greenhouse tables and hanging displays, covering a wide range of colours and bloom shapes. The butterfly enclosure sits at the centre of the garden, netted to keep the insects contained while letting visitors walk among them; a small waterfall inside adds a photo backdrop. Butterflies are most active in the cooler morning hours, roughly 9-11 AM — visit later in the day and they tend to settle rather than fly.

A gift shop on site sells jewellery, including orchid- and butterfly-themed pieces, and a buffet restaurant serves lunch for a separate fee. It’s a compact, low-effort stop rather than a half-day excursion — most visits run an hour or so, which makes it easy to combine with other Mae Rim attractions on the same drive.

Insider Tip: Bring a camera with macro capability if photography is the main draw — butterflies rarely stay still for long, and the greenhouse orchids reward close-up shots more than wide ones.
