Scientific Centre for Education, Khon Kaen Provinc
ศูนย์วิทยาศาสตร์เพื่อการศึกษาจังหวัดขอนแก่น
The Scientific Centre for Education sits on Mittraphap Road in Ban Phai district, about 41 km south of Khon Kaen city. Run by Thailand’s Department of Non-Formal Education, it’s a working science-education facility with nine themed exhibition halls, not a botanical garden. Admission is 10 THB per person, and it’s open daily from 08:30 to 16:30.
The halls cover a wide spread of subjects: natural agriculture and a science garden, soilless (hydroponic) growing, an insect exhibition, technology in a changing world, a prehistoric garden with dinosaur-era displays, an astronomy and space hall, petroleum and energy, and local-wisdom innovation drawing on northeastern Thai crafts and know-how. A central science lab hosts hands-on workshops for school groups and science-camp visitors. There’s no planetarium or dome theatre on site — astronomy content here is exhibition-based rather than a projected sky show, which is worth knowing if that’s specifically what you’re after (Khon Kaen’s dedicated observatory, run separately by NARIT, is the place for that).
Because it’s a Department of Non-Formal Education site first and a tourist attraction second, expect a functional, low-frills layout rather than a slickly designed science museum. School groups on organised visits make up much of the daytime traffic on weekdays; the centre also runs teacher-training and vocational courses for the wider public. The grounds cover just over 51 rai, giving room to walk between the separate halls rather than one continuous building.
Insider Tip: Call ahead (0 4327 4154) if you’re bringing a group larger than a few people — staff appreciate advance notice to prepare a hall or arrange a guided run-through.

Bring water and comfortable shoes for walking between halls, and note this is a school-hours facility — visiting outside term-time or later in the afternoon means smaller crowds. For more to see elsewhere in the province, Khon Kaen National Museum and Bueng Kaen Nakhon are both worth the drive up to the provincial capital.
