Tours & tickets

The Song Kwae Maeklong Skywalk is a 150-metre glass-floored walkway standing 12 metres above the point where three rivers — the Khwae Noi, Khwae Yai and Mae Klong — meet in Mueang Kanchanaburi. Opened in September 2022, it’s built out over the confluence, where the differently coloured waters are visible from above. Entry is around 60 THB, which includes the cloth shoe-covers you must wear to protect the glass, and it’s open daily, roughly 9am to 5pm.

The view

The reason to come is the confluence. From the glass floor you look straight down onto the meeting of the three rivers, and when their waters are carrying different amounts of sediment you can see a distinct two-tone line where they join — the “two-colour river” that gives the skywalk its reputation. The curved deck reaches out over the water, so the view is genuinely below your feet, not just ahead of you.

Insider Tip: Time your visit for the hour after opening or the last hour before closing. The light is warmest, the glass isn’t baking underfoot, and you’ll share the deck with far fewer people than at midday.

Visiting

You pay a small fee, around 60 THB, and are given cloth covers to slip over your shoes before stepping onto the glass. The walkway is solid and fully railed, but the see-through central span is a real drop, so it’s not the place for anyone who dislikes heights. Allow 20–30 minutes for the skywalk itself.

Watch out: The glass floor is exactly that — a clear panel with a 12-metre drop beneath it. If vertigo is an issue for you or your children, the solid outer edges let you take in the view without walking on the transparent section.

The market and getting there

A walking street and regular market run along the ground beside the skywalk, with local food stalls, goods and open riverside space to sit — handy for combining the visit with a bite to eat. The skywalk is in the city itself, on Songkwai Road in Ban Tai, so it’s an easy add-on to a Kanchanaburi trip built around the River Kwai and the wartime history.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Song Kwae Maeklong Skywalk cost?
Around 60 THB per person, which includes the cloth shoe-covers you're required to wear to protect the glass floor. Bring cash.
What are the opening hours?
Daily, roughly 09:00 to 17:00 (some sources cite slightly longer). Sunrise and late afternoon give the best light on the water and the coolest temperatures.
What will I see from the skywalk?
A bird's-eye view of the point where three rivers — the Khwae Noi, Khwae Yai and Mae Klong — meet. Where the differently coloured waters converge you can often see a two-tone line in the river below, which is the signature view.
Is it scary — is the floor really glass?
Yes, the central section has a see-through glass floor 12 metres above the ground, so it's not for anyone with a strong fear of heights. The walkway is sturdy and railed; the shoe covers stop shoes scratching the glass.
Is there anything else to do there?
A walking street and market run along the ground beside the skywalk, selling local food and goods, with open riverside space to sit.
