Suan Ban Kaeo Palace

Suan Ban Kaeo Palace was the residence and working demonstration centre of Queen Rambhai Barni, consort of King Rama VII, built around 1949 in Tha Chang, Chanthaburi. The grounds are now part of Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University, named in her honour, and the palace buildings survive as a heritage site inside the campus — free to visit, Monday to Friday, 08:30-16:30.

The wooden halls follow traditional Thai palace design: gabled roofs, carved detailing, and period furnishings that once belonged to the Queen’s household. A canal she used for water management runs through the grounds, and the surrounding gardens were originally a working plant nursery rather than purely ornamental — Rambhai Barni used the site to trial crops and horticultural projects for the local community, which is part of why the university now sits here rather than a more conventional royal-heritage body.
