Sub Hew Waterfall

Sub Hew Waterfall drops roughly 30 metres in Saraburi’s Nong Yang Suea area, reached off Highway 2224 in Muak Lek district. It’s free to visit, open daily 7am-6pm — a separate site from the fee-charging national parks nearby, and not part of Khao Yai National Park despite sitting in the same general foothills region.

The waterfall’s distinguishing feature is a stalactite-lined cave opening beside the main drop, uncommon among the smaller cascades scattered through this part of Muak Lek. Water falls from the cliff into a pool at the base used for swimming when flow allows — rainy season, June through October, brings the fullest cascade and deepest pool; the dry season (roughly November-April) can leave it reduced to a trickle.

Insider Tip: This is a quieter alternative to Namtok Chet Sao Noi National Park a short drive away, which draws bigger crowds on weekends because of its seven-tier cascade and lower entry fee. Sub Hew sees far fewer visitors for a comparable forest-waterfall experience.

Watch out: Rocks around the pool and cave entrance get slick when wet — reef shoes or sturdy sandals with grip are safer than bare feet or flip-flops on the approach.

The surrounding area sits in the Muak Lek forest belt at the edge of the Khao Yai mountain range, sharing the region’s cooler, greener character even though the site itself isn’t part of the national park. Namtok Chet Sao Noi National Park and Muak Lek Arboretum, both nearby in the same district, make reasonable pairings for a fuller day around Saraburi’s waterfall country.
