Tapong Community centres on Rayong’s “Fruit Road” — a stretch of Tapong subdistrict lined with more than a dozen working orchards open to visitors, roughly April through August when durian, rambutan, and mangosteen ripen. This is real agricultural tourism in a genuinely productive fruit-growing area, not a re-enacted village experience.

Driving the Fruit Road during season means stopping at orchard gates where growers sell fruit by weight or offer tastings for a small charge — durian is the headline crop, but rambutan and mangosteen fill in when durian is out of season or sold out for the day. The Tapong Fruit Market gives a simpler option if you’d rather buy without the orchard-hopping: a central point selling produce from growers across the subdistrict. Tapong subdistrict also holds an annual fruit festival, usually timed to peak season in May, with tastings, local food stalls, and evening concerts — worth checking the Tapong Subdistrict Administrative Organization’s page for current dates before planning around it.

Outside peak fruit season, the orchards are still there but there’s far less reason to detour specifically for tastings — the road itself runs through ordinary working farmland rather than a curated attraction, so an off-season visit is a quiet countryside drive rather than a fruit-tasting trip. Local dishes like khao gaeng (rice served with a choice of curries) turn up at stalls near the market and along the road, a practical lunch stop rather than a staged cultural meal.

Getting here from central Rayong is straightforward by car or rental scooter; public transport options into Tapong subdistrict itself are limited, so most visitors drive in rather than rely on songthaews.

Insider Tip: Ask which orchards are actually fruiting before you set off — durian trees don’t all ripen on the same schedule, and a grower or the subdistrict office can tell you which stops are worth the stop that week.

Watch out: Outside April-August, don’t expect much fruit on offer — this isn’t a year-round tasting destination, and turning up in the wrong month means an orchard drive with little to actually eat.
