Thai Mangosteen Orchard Rayong
สวนมังคุดไทย (สวนคุณปัญญา)
Suan Khun Panya, known on English-language listings as Thai Mangosteen Orchard, is a working fruit farm at 31 Moo 4 in Nong Taphan subdistrict, Ban Khai district - about 20 rai (3.2 hectares) planted with more than 300 mangosteen trees, alongside rambutan, durian, and dragon fruit. Owner Panya Suksawang took over the family land in 1995 and built it into one of the district’s agritourism stops.
The orchard is a genuinely seasonal destination. Mangosteen ripens roughly May through August in this part of eastern Thailand, and that window is when the orchard’s tasting side actually operates - walking through rows of mature mangosteen trees to see purple fruit hanging in the canopy, then trying it fresh. Outside those months, the trees are still there but there’s little or nothing to taste, so this isn’t a year-round fruit stop the way some roadside markets are.
Walking the grounds doesn’t cost anything, but the tasting experience - trying mangosteen, rambutan, and whatever else is in season - typically runs as a separate paid buffet, historically quoted around 150-200 THB per person. Treat that figure as approximate: harvest-dependent pricing at small family orchards changes from year to year, and it’s worth confirming when you arrive rather than assuming a flat “free” visit covers the fruit.
Insider Tip: Call ahead or check locally before making a special trip in shoulder months - a farm this size can sell out its ripe fruit on a good weekend, or have almost nothing to offer if the harvest is running late.
- Entry fee: Free to walk the grounds; fruit tasting is a separate paid buffet (approximate, harvest-dependent pricing)
- Best season: Roughly May-August for mangosteen and the orchard’s other fruit
- Size: About 20 rai, 300+ mangosteen trees plus rambutan, durian, and dragon fruit
- Location: Nong Taphan subdistrict, Ban Khai district, inland from central Rayong
- Good to know: Off-season visits see the trees but no fresh fruit to taste or buy
For other Rayong agritourism stops, Prasomsap Garden and Suan Suphatthra are both fruit-growing destinations elsewhere in the province worth comparing before you pick one for a day trip.
