Tham Weruwan

Tham Weruwan sits inside the grounds of Wat Wang Khan, a working temple in Dan Chang district, Suphan Buri, about 14 km from Dan Chang town. It’s free to enter, open daily 06:00-17:00, and it’s a temple cave rather than a protected wildlife area — no permit needed.

A staircase of 61 concrete steps climbs from the parking area to the cave mouth. Inside, a large seated Buddha image in the Pang Pa Lelai posture is the centrepiece, positioned directly beneath a natural opening in the rock that lets daylight fall onto the statue — the detail most visitors come to photograph. Stalactites and stalagmites fill the chambers beyond, along with tree roots and vines that have worked their way through cracks in the limestone. A smaller shrine sits further into the cave. The walking route covers a few connected chambers rather than a long system, manageable in normal shoes without ropes or guides.

This is one of Suphan Buri’s lesser-known sights — locally it’s still described as an “unseen” spot even within the province, so don’t expect crowds or much in the way of signage. The temple itself keeps the site low-key rather than developing it into a tourist draw. Dan Chang is Suphan Buri’s western, forested district bordering Uthai Thani, and provincial tourism promotion groups this cave with nearby Kra Siao Dam and the district’s other natural sites as a rainy-season circuit — the cave stays cool and dry regardless of the weather outside, which is part of the appeal when the lowland heat elsewhere in the province gets heavy.

Insider Tip: Bring a torch. Electric lighting inside is minimal, and the light shaft over the Buddha statue is the exception rather than the rule.

Watch out: The steps and cave floor get slippery after rain — wear shoes with grip, and dress modestly since this is an active place of worship.
