The Chumphon Night Market

Chumphon Night Market sets up every evening on Thanon Krom Luang Chumphon in the Tha Taphao area of Mueang Chumphon, the province’s main town. Stalls start cooking from around 6pm, and there’s no entrance fee — you pay only for what you buy.

Southern Thai street food is the draw: grilled and fried seafood, curries ladled over rice, noodle dishes, and a run of dessert stalls selling coconut-based sweets and fruit. Vendors set up plastic tables along the road so you can eat where you buy, and the crowd is mostly locals grabbing dinner rather than a tour-bus circuit. Expect the usual market soundtrack — sizzling woks, vendors calling out prices, motorbikes threading between the stalls.

Insider Tip: Bring small denominations. Most stalls don’t take cards, and few carry change for large notes once the evening gets busy.

Chumphon isn’t a major tourist hub the way Phuket or Chiang Mai are, so this market stays a working local event rather than something restructured for visitors — that also means no English menus at most stalls, so pointing at what looks good works fine. It gets busiest between about 7pm and 9pm; arrive earlier if you want first pick of the freshest seafood, or later for a thinner crowd and stalls starting to discount unsold stock.

The market sits in the middle of Chumphon town, within easy reach of Chumphon Railway Station and the Chumphon National Museum, both walkable or a short ride away if you want to pair an evening market visit with daytime sightseeing in town.
