The National Archives in Commemoration of H.M. the King’s Golden Jubilee

The National Archives in Commemoration of H.M. the King’s Golden Jubilee is a genuine public exhibition space, not simply a document-storage office. Thailand’s Fine Arts Department built it in 1996 to mark King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Golden Jubilee — 50 years on the throne — on a 75-rai campus in Khlong Ha subdistrict, Khlong Luang district. Buildings 3 and 4 house a permanent exhibition, around 3,000 square metres, covering the King’s reign and his royal-initiated development projects. Entry is free, but it only opens weekdays, 09:00 to 16:30, so a weekend visit means finding the gates shut.
The exhibition halls are the part of the campus built for visitors, distinct from the archive’s working collection of state documents and royal correspondence, which serves researchers rather than casual sightseers. Expect a formal, institutional government-building feel rather than a lively museum — this is a memorial and reference institution first, arranged around King Bhumibol’s decades of public projects and the milestones of his reign.
Watch out: The weekday-only hours are easy to miss if you’re used to Bangkok’s temple and market schedules, which mostly run daily. Confirm the day of your visit falls Monday through Friday before making the trip out.
Insider Tip: Pathum Thani’s Khlong Luang district has a cluster of other free or low-cost museums nearby, so pairing this stop with one or two others on the same weekday trip makes better use of the drive out from Bangkok.
The site sits about an hour from central Bangkok by car, in the same general area as several of Pathum Thani’s other educational attractions.
