Usawadee Rose Garden

Usawadee Rose Garden is a private rose farm in the hills of Suan Phueng district, about 19 km from Suan Phueng town plus a further 3 km toward Huai Nam Sai village. It’s attached to Usawadee Resort and open daily from 08:00 to 17:00, free to walk around. The elevation here — enough to give Suan Phueng its reputation as Ratchaburi’s cool-climate corner — is what lets the roses do well at all; this far south, most rose varieties struggle without it.

Paths cut through beds of domestic and imported rose varieties, planted across a valley setting with the surrounding hills as a backdrop. Blooms are heaviest from November to February, when the cool season keeps daytime temperatures comfortable for both the flowers and anyone walking the grounds for an hour or two. Visit in April or May and you’ll find a quieter, greener garden with far fewer flowers — worth knowing before you make the drive expecting a full bloom.

One detail that sets Usawadee apart from a standard flower farm: a series of fish ponds built in stepped terraces, using a Japanese aquaculture technique where stream water flows continuously from the hillside through each pond level before draining onward. It’s a small but genuinely unusual feature worth seeking out beyond the rose beds themselves.

Insider Tip: Go in the early morning if you can. The light is softer for photos, the temperature is still cool enough to enjoy the walk, and you’ll beat the day-trip crowds that arrive from Bangkok by midday on weekends.

Watch out: Public transport doesn’t reach this far into the hills — you’ll need a private car, rented motorbike, or a driver arranged through your accommodation. The last stretch of road is narrow and winds through farmland, so take it slowly, especially after rain.

Most visitors spend one to two hours here before moving on. Pa Toey Waterfall is about a kilometre away — roughly an hour round trip on foot — and Khao Krachom viewpoint is a further 20 km into Suan Phueng for those staying longer. Veneto Suan Phueng, the area’s Italian-village-styled resort, makes a good contrast stop nearby if you want a couple of very different photo backdrops in one day. Base yourself in Ratchaburi or one of the Suan Phueng resorts for the night.
