Wat Fang Klong Chalermraja Cultural Center

Wat Fang Klong Chalermraja Cultural Center sits within the grounds of Wat Fang Klong in Pak Phli district, Nakhon Nayok, and was recognised as the first Chalermraj Cultural Center in central Thailand. Its focus is specific: the Thai Phuan (ไทยพวน), an ethnic group with roots across the border in Laos who settled this stretch of Pak Phli generations ago and kept their own textiles, dialect, and customs distinct from the surrounding Thai communities.

The collection runs to household tools, woven Phuan textiles, and everyday objects donated by local families, displayed alongside explanatory panels on Phuan history and customs. The center has partnered with the National Discovery Museum Institute (Museum Siam) on rotating exhibitions — one recent showing told a Phuan folk story through artifacts and narrative panels. It’s a small, community-run museum rather than a polished national institution, and that’s part of the appeal: the people staffing it are often from the families whose objects are on display.

Insider Tip: Ask a staff member for context on the exhibits if you can — much of the collection’s value is in the family stories behind individual pieces, which the panels alone don’t always capture.
