Wat Sak Yai

Wat Sak Yai sits in Ban Bang O, a village in Tambon Wat Chalo on the Bang Kruai side of Nonthaburi, a short drive from the Chao Phraya’s west bank. Local accounts date the temple’s founding to 2317 BE (1774), not long after the fall of Ayutthaya, when King Taksin is said to have contributed royal funds alongside the area’s original settlers to establish it. The principal Buddha image in the ordination hall is venerated locally as a centuries-old Sukhothai-style figure, and Wat Sak Yai has a standing reputation among nearby traders and shopkeepers as a place to pray when a business has stalled or a livelihood needs to hold steady.
