Koh Samui Nightlife: Best Bars, Beach Clubs & Live Music

By Thai Holiday Guide Editorial · 3 min read ·Updated 20 June 2026

Green Mango, Ark Bar, Coco Tam's fire shows, Lamai live music, and Bophut Friday Night Market — Koh Samui's best nightlife with prices and tips.

Koh Samui’s nightlife centers on three areas: Chaweng Beach Road (the main strip), Lamai’s bar scene, and Fisherman’s Village in Bophut. Chaweng has the biggest concentration of clubs, bars, and late-night venues, while Lamai is more laid-back with reggae bars and live music. Bophut’s Friday Night Market is the island’s best evening out for families and couples who prefer food and shopping over clubbing.

Chaweng Beach

Chaweng Beach Road is the epicenter of Koh Samui’s nightlife. The action concentrates around Soi Green Mango and the surrounding streets, where bars, clubs, and restaurants are packed side by side.

Green Mango Club

Editor's pick

Green Mango Club

  • No cover charge
  • Late night
  • Open air

The island's main reference point for a big night out — a multi-level open-air club on Soi Green Mango with two dance floors, multiple bars, and a sound system that carries well down the street. It plays EDM, hip-hop, and mainstream pop. The club is near-empty at 10pm and properly busy from midnight onwards. No dress code, no cover charge most nights.

Area
Chaweng · 195 Moo 2, Soi Green Mango, Chaweng
Hours
Open nightly — quiet until ~11pm, peaks midnight to 4am
Price
200–350 THB cocktails; no cover charge
Go for
Vodka bucket or a beer while the floor fills

  • Daily fire show
  • Pool party

A beachfront resort and beach club on central Chaweng that runs pool parties from 2pm daily, a free fire show every night from 8pm, and beach parties with international DJs on Wednesdays and Fridays. One of the few spots where you can dance with sand underfoot. The free fire show is a draw for people who aren't planning to stay late.

Area
Chaweng · 159/89 Moo 2, Central Chaweng Beach
Hours
Daily 7am–2am; DJs from 2pm; fire show nightly from 8pm
Price
150–300 THB drinks

Coco Tam’s

A beachfront lounge bar on Bophut Beach (not Chaweng) — worth noting before you set off.

Coco Tam's

  • Fire show
  • Beachfront
  • Bophut

A beachfront bar and restaurant on Bophut Beach with bamboo-shack architecture and floor-level seating — cushions, beanbags, and hanging chairs directly on the sand. Two fire shows run nightly (7:15pm and 9pm) and are the main draw. Food and cocktails are on the pricier side; a 500 THB per-person minimum spend applies. Best for couples or groups who want atmosphere rather than a dance floor.

Area
Bophut · 62/1 Moo 1, Bophut Beach, Fisherman's Village
Hours
Daily 1pm–midnight; fire shows 7:15pm and 9pm nightly
Price
250–400 THB cocktails; 500 THB minimum spend per adult

Bar Solo

Bar Solo

  • Live music
  • Rock & pop covers
  • Chaweng

A live music bar on Chaweng Beach Road with bands playing rock, reggae, and pop covers most nights. A good pick if you prefer a band over a DJ booth. The sound quality is decent for the format. Drinks are cheaper than the beach clubs.

Area
Chaweng · Chaweng Beach Rd, central Chaweng
Hours
Nightly from around 9pm; live bands start ~10pm
Price
120–250 THB drinks
Go for
Beer while the band plays covers

Lamai Beach

Lamai’s nightlife is more relaxed than Chaweng. The bars are smaller, the music is more varied (lots of reggae and classic rock), and the crowd is generally older. The main strip is along Lamai Beach Road.

Shamrock Irish Pub

Shamrock Irish Pub

  • Live music
  • Sports bar
  • Lamai

A long-running Irish pub on Lamai Beach Road that has been running since 2005. Pool tables, big screens for live sports, pub quiz nights, and the Ovada show band on from 9:30pm to 1:30am nightly. The crowd skews toward expats and long-stay visitors. Straightforward and unpretentious — a good alternative to the Chaweng strip.

Area
Lamai · 124/144 Moo 3, Lamai Beach Rd
Hours
Daily from 9:30am to around 2am; live band from 9:30pm nightly
Price
130–220 THB drinks; draught beer from 130 THB

Beach Republic

Beach Republic

  • Beach club
  • Sunday brunch
  • Upscale

A premium beach club on the southern end of Lamai Beach with an infinity pool, sun loungers, and a cocktail bar. Daytime and sunset sessions are the main draw here — it closes at 9pm, so it's not a late-night option. The Sunday Sessions brunch runs from 11:30am with free-flow drinks and live DJs; book ahead for that.

Area
Lamai · 176/34 Moo 4, Lamai Beach
Hours
Daily 8am–9pm; Sunday Sessions brunch 11:30am–3:30pm
Price
300–500 THB cocktails
Go for
Cocktail at the infinity pool, or the Sunday brunch free-flow

Bophut & Fisherman’s Village

Fisherman’s Village in Bophut is the most atmospheric area on Koh Samui after dark. The narrow streets lined with old Chinese shophouses, boutique restaurants, and cocktail bars create a different feel from the Chaweng strip.

Friday Night Market (Walking Street)

Every Friday evening, Fisherman’s Village closes to traffic and becomes a walking street market with food stalls, live music stages, craft vendors, and street performers. Runs from about 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The best evening activity on the island for families, couples, and anyone who prefers a market atmosphere over nightclubs. On non-market nights, the Jungle Kitchen evening cooking class near the village fills the same slot — 4.5 hours, capped at eight guests, ending with the dinner you cooked.

Tips for a Night Out on Koh Samui

  • Pre-drink at your hotel or 7-Eleven — Club drinks are 2-3x the price of convenience store beers. Most people start the evening with cheaper drinks before heading out.

  • Use Grab for transport — Songthaews (shared pickup trucks) stop running by 10 PM. Grab is available on Koh Samui but with fewer drivers than Bangkok — book 15-20 minutes ahead.

  • Carry cash — Most bars don’t accept credit cards. ATMs charge 250-350 THB per withdrawal for foreign cards.

  • Watch drink prices — Some bars on the Chaweng strip charge inflated tourist prices. Check the menu before ordering, especially at smaller bars.

  • Full Moon nearbyKoh Phangan’s Full Moon Party is a 30-minute speedboat ride from Koh Samui. Boats depart from Bangrak Pier (Big Buddha). Return boats run until morning. The Haad Rin Queen slow ferry costs around 200 THB one-way; dedicated party speedboat packages run 1,000-1,500 THB round-trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time do bars close on Koh Samui?
Venues in the Chaweng entertainment zone can trade until 4:00 AM under Thailand's extended-hours designation; 2:00 AM applies elsewhere on the island. Some venues around Soi Green Mango push later on busy nights, while beach bars and restaurants typically wind down by midnight. Enforcement varies — during crackdown periods, closing times are stricter.
Is Koh Samui good for nightlife?
Koh Samui has a solid nightlife scene — especially along Chaweng Beach Road — but it is not on the scale of Bangkok or Koh Phangan's Full Moon Party. For a mix of beach clubs, live music bars, and a handful of proper nightclubs, Koh Samui delivers; for a massive rave, take the boat to Koh Phangan.
What should I wear for a night out on Koh Samui?
Koh Samui nightlife is casual — shorts, sandals, and a t-shirt are fine for most bars and clubs, and there are no strict dress codes. Beach clubs like Ark Bar expect swimwear during the day, transitioning to casual evening wear.
How do I get to the Koh Phangan Full Moon Party from Koh Samui?
Speedboats depart Bangrak Pier (near Big Buddha) and take about 30 minutes; party packages run 1,000-1,500 THB round-trip. The cheaper Haad Rin Queen slow ferry is about 200 THB one-way (roughly 50 minutes). Boats start in the evening and return through the night until early morning.
