This is the one with the TripAdvisor plaques. Expique’s evening tuk-tuk tour has been named the No.1 Experience in Thailand four times (2018, 2020, 2023, 2024), and once you’ve done it the formula makes sense: Bangkok is a different city after dark, and a tuk-tuk is the right vehicle for the old town’s narrow lanes. You end up at the Pak Khlong Talat flower market at midnight, Wat Prayoon lit from below, and a street dinner in Chinatown with half the city apparently eating around you.

The evening starts at Krung Thonburi BTS (Green Line), exit 1, where the guide in an Expique polo waits at ticket-office level. You pile into tuk-tuks and set off through the old town, stopping at the Pak Khlong Talat flower market to watch overnight deliveries of jasmine and marigolds come in; then into the grounds of Wat Prayoon, a lesser-known temple with a pond of turtles and a whitewashed chedi lit up at night; then a string of food stops culminating in dinner in Chinatown. Snacks, dinner, dessert and non-alcoholic drinks are included, and the guides are practiced at explaining what you’re eating. Drop-off at the end is within a limited radius of the city centre.

This is pitched as a cultural tour with food, not a pure street-food crawl. If the food is the whole point, Expique’s Bangkok Evening Street Food Tuk Tuk Adventure is a better fit. Four hours, groups of up to nine on the shared version, and a private option for families with young children. Hotel pickup isn’t included, but Grab from anywhere central to Krung Thonburi BTS is quick.

Wear closed shoes (you’re walking through markets), carry a light layer for the tuk-tuk breeze, and have some cash for tips. Rain cancellations are rare but possible in monsoon months.

Itinerary

1

Stop

For this tour your will need to make your way to our meeting point at Krung Thonburi BTS Station. Here you will meet your guide, who will introduce the tour before you hop into your tuk-tuk (2 or 3 people per tuk tuk). Krung Thonburi is the first station when you cross over the river to the Thonburi side of Bangkok. Thonburi has a much more local feel and we will explore both local life and history on this side of the river before crossing over to the historic area of Rattanakosin.

2

Stop

We will stop at a local street food market area to sample a selection of snacks and learn about the local way of life and culture.

3

Stop

This is an alternative stop to Wat Arun Temple due to temporary suspension of the temple for renovation purpose. Wat Prayoon temple, a recipient of UNESCO Cultural Heritage Conservation Award of Excellence in 2013 has a rich history of itself. It was built in the reign of the King Rama III which makes this temple approx. 200 years old. The temple features a beautiful white stupa which can be seen miles away due to its big size stupa. This is why this temple is a perfect alternative to Wat Arun temple

4

Stop

We will take a walk through the famous Bangkok Flower Market that runs 24 hours a day and comes alive at night.

5

Stop

We will stop at a local restaurant for dinner. Our restaurant choice does change to ensure we best accommodate the group.

6

Stop

We will cross back over the river to explore the historic area of Rattanakosin, which is where many of the most famous landmarks in Bangkok are.

7

Stop

We will pass by The Grand Palace, and while it is closed in the evening it makes a great photo stop with it lit up in the background.

8

Stop

This stop is currently suspended as Wat Pho is currently shut at night. Once it is re-opened we will stop here again. In the interim, we will visit Wat Arun instead.

9

Stop

The Giant Swing is one of the key landmarks of Bangkok and we will stop here to briefly learn about its history.

10

Stop

The final stop will be in Chinatown. At night Chinatown comes to life with street food vendors and we will finish the tour with dessert.
