Highlights

  • Longtail boat ride with local boatman
  • Hands-on Thai cooking class
  • Guided fresh market tour
  • Private tour for your party only
  • Thai lunch at a local restaurant

A private day with chef Aoy, an Iron Chef Thailand winner, pairs a market visit and cooking class near Bangkok with a 30-minute longtail boat ride. The tour runs 6 hours for up to 9 people, from $199.

The Experience: the day starts at Bang Wa BTS station at 8 AM, where Aoy collects guests in a silver Toyota Fortuner for the drive to a wholesale market and then Don Wai Market, a riverside market used mostly by locals rather than tour groups. From the market pier, a longtail boat carries the group along the Tha Chin River to Aoy’s home, set among riverside gardens. The cooking class covers two dishes from scratch — the menu runs to Pad Thai, red curry with roasted duck, or Aoy’s own Somtam lood, depending on the day — cooked in her studio kitchen and eaten overlooking the river.

A home-cooked Thai meal, the market tour, the boat ride, and the cooking class are all included in the price; round-trip hotel transfers are optional rather than built in. Beer can be bought on site if you want a drink with lunch.

Good for travellers who want a slower, hosted version of a cooking class rather than a group kitchen session; skip it if a fixed daytime schedule doesn’t work, since the meeting point and timing are set rather than flexible.

Insider Tip: Aoy runs a small restaurant from the same riverside house, so a few of her regular customers may be seated nearby during the lunch hour — it’s part of the setting, not a scheduling clash.

Itinerary

1

Meet your host, an Iron Chef Thailand winner, at Bang Wa BTS Station at 8am for pickup and a short drive to Don Wai Market, famous for its vibrant produce and local snacks. Stroll through the market together as your host introduces you to regional fruits, vegetables, and Thai ingredients. Then, enjoy a scenic 30-minute boat ride along the Tha Chin River to your host’s peaceful riverside home surrounded by lush gardens. This private boat ride on this serene river is a truly unique experience in Bangkok.

2

Sip a refreshing drink before stepping into your host's professional kitchen studio for a hands-on Thai cooking class. Learn to prepare two authentic Thai dishes from scratch as your host shares her deep knowledge of local herbs, spices, and culinary traditions. After cooking, savor your meal overlooking the river — dishes may include Pad Thai, red curry with roasted duck, or her signature Somtam lood. Enjoy your creations with a glass of local beer before returning to Bang Wa Station. Your host is not only passionate about cooking but also presenting dishes artfully with flowers and herbs from her garden. She lives on a lush, beautiful property on the banks of the Tha Chin River which is in the Nakhon Sathom Province - it is a wonderful stop en route back from the Damnoen Saduak floating market into the city. Please note that your host runs a restaurant out of her home so there may be a few patrons of the restaurant in the dining room during the lunch hour.
