Full Day Ang Thong Islands Luxury Small Group Tour

4.9 (322 reviews) Top rated

Highlights

  • Speedboat tour of Ang Thong Marine Park's 42 islands
  • Small group capped at 16 guests
  • Kayak the Emerald Lagoon
  • Snorkel gear and beach mat included
  • Thai buffet lunch with fresh fruit
  • Round-trip hotel transfers

Ang Thong Marine Park sprawls across 42 limestone islands in the Gulf of Thailand, and this seven-hour speedboat trip caps the group at 16 — which makes a real difference when you’re trying to kayak into the Emerald Lagoon without elbowing strangers. Departure is from Plailaem pier on Koh Samui’s north coast, with hotel pickup folded into the price.

The boat cuts through the archipelago with stops for swimming, snorkelling over reefs, and kayaking inside the inland saltwater lake that gives the park its emerald nickname. Gear — mask, snorkel, fins, plus a beach mat — is handed out on board, and the guide points out which coves are worth a photo and which caves you can wade into at low tide. Lunch is a Thai buffet served on one of the larger islands with fresh fruit and cold drinks, and you’ll have time to stretch out on white sand before heading back. The viewpoint climb above Wua Talap is the one active stop worth making — about 500 wooden steps and a bird’s-eye look over the whole marine park.

Seven hours sounds long, but the pace suits mixed fitness — kayaking is optional, the viewpoint climb can be skipped, and the boat is fast enough to keep transit time down compared with the older wooden-boat tours. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes or sandals with a strap, and something to cover your shoulders. The 300 THB adult / 150 THB child park fee is payable at the pier in cash. Rough seas in monsoon months (September-November) can cancel trips outright, so check the forecast the evening before and keep the booking flexible.

Itinerary

1

After a morning pick-up from Koh Samui, head straight to the pier to begin your maritime excursion among the 42 islands of Ang Thong. After being fitted for masks and snorkels, you’ll glide over to the island of Koh Wao to snorkel in the crystal-clear waters among magnificently diverse coral reefs. Explore the sheltered bay, keeping your eyes peeled for tropical fish. Continuing through the national park, you’ll arrive at Koh Mae Ko for kayaking and after that. Disembarking and heading for the panoramic view above the Emerald Lagoon, a gem of Ang Thong Park. Fed by the sea through a series of caves, the lagoon is completely untouched, as it is illegal to swim within it. Afterward, head to Koh Phaluai for a seaside Thai lunch, and for some time to unwind and relax on the beach before heading back to Koh Samui
