Hotel Pai Country Hut is a guesthouse of standalone thatched cottages at 240 Moo 1, Mae Hee, Pai. Pai Walking Street is about 100 m away and the Pai River about 50 m, so it sits within walking range of the town’s food and music rather than out in the rice fields.

The rooms are individual cottages with thatched roofs and traditional wooden furnishings. Rooms have a fan, mosquito netting, a private bathroom with shower, a flat-screen TV and a balcony or terrace. Air conditioning is in some cottages but not all, so confirm it when you book if you are travelling in the hot months of March to May. The Deluxe Cottage sleeps two. Pick a cottage facing the garden or the inner courtyard if you want quiet, since those are the views on offer.
Location and getting there
Distances are short. Wat Klang is 0.3 km away, the Pai Night Market 0.4 km and Wat Luang 0.6 km. Pai Walking Street is the nightly food and craft market, and you can walk home afterwards. For the wider valley, Pai Canyon is about 7 km and Tha Pai Hot Spring about 6.6 km, an easy scooter ride. The guesthouse says it offers a free transfer from Pai Airport, about 10 minutes by car. If you come overland from Chiang Mai, the Pai guide covers the road and its 762 curves, and the cottage is a short taxi ride from wherever the bus drops you.
Who Hotel Pai Country Hut suits (and who it doesn’t)
It suits backpackers, solo travellers and couples who want a simple cottage within walking distance of the town and care more about the setting than the fittings. It is a poor fit if you need a pool, a lift, polished interiors or round-the-clock reception. Light sleepers should ask for a cottage away from the road, as town noise carries in a place this close to the centre.
