Sai Daeng Resort is a 4-star beachfront resort on the southeast coast of Koh Tao, a few steps from Sai Daeng Beach and close to Aow Leuk Bay. It has 49 air-conditioned rooms, an outdoor pool, a restaurant, a bar and a private beach area for snorkelling and kayaking. It is a proper resort on an island where most beds are bungalows and dive hostels.

The room list climbs in steps. Standard Garden View and the Triple Room with Garden View are the entry points, set back from the water. Superior Double Room with Sea View and Deluxe Ocean View put a balcony between you and the bay. Villa with Sea View gives more space, and the Family Pool Villa adds a private pool, which suits a family of four who want to stay put after a day on the boat.
Rooms have air conditioning, a seating area, a flat-screen TV, a safe and a private bathroom with a hairdryer in the rooms. If the sea view matters to you, book a sea-view category by name. The garden rooms are cheaper for a reason.
Location and getting there
Sai Daeng is on the quieter side of the island, away from the dive-school strip at Sairee Beach. Shark Bay Beach is 1.3 km away. Ferries land at Mae Haad pier, and from there a taxi truck or your own scooter covers the road across to this coast. Expect hills, so a scooter is for confident riders only.

Facilities
The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a bar for evening drinks, and some rates include breakfast. Beyond the pool there is a garden, a terrace and a shared lounge. Check-in runs from 14:00 to 21:00 and check-out from 06:00 to 11:00. The front desk is open 24 hours, which helps when a ferry runs late.
Who Sai Daeng Resort suits (and who it doesn’t)
It suits divers who want to come home to a pool and a proper bed, couples after a quiet bay, and families who can use the pool villa. It is less good if you want nightlife and dive shops outside your door. Backpackers on a tight budget will find cheaper bungalows elsewhere, and so will anyone who wants to walk to a dozen bars.
