The Children’s Discovery Museum Bangkok 1 sits inside Queen Sirikit Park in Chatuchak, a free, hands-on museum run by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration for children roughly aged 2 to 12. Unlike a typical museum, the exhibits are built to be touched, climbed on, and taken apart — the whole point is participation rather than looking at things behind glass.

The museum splits across separate zones and buildings by age group. Younger children get sensory and motor-skill play areas, while the older-kids’ building runs science stations (water, light, and sound experiments), a technology corner introducing basic coding, a craft studio, and a role-play “mini city” with a bank, market stall, and hospital set-up. It’s been through at least one major renovation since first opening (the BMA overhauled it around 2015 under a “Learning for Young Creative Minds” concept), and the exhibits still lean toward that hands-on, DIY-science feel rather than screens-only displays.

Weekday mornings are the quietest time to visit — school holidays and weekends bring noticeably bigger crowds of Bangkok families, and some of the more popular stations (the water-experiment tables especially) can have a short wait. Air conditioning throughout makes it a comfortable indoor option on a hot Bangkok afternoon, and bilingual staff are on hand at most stations to help non-Thai-speaking visitors.

Insider Tip: Combine the visit with Chatuchak Park next door — bring a change of clothes if your kids plan to use the park’s play areas afterward, since the museum’s activities can get messy (paint, water play).

Watch out: The museum is closed every Monday, and opening hours run only 10:00-16:00 — arriving after 15:00 leaves little time to see more than one or two zones properly.

Take the MRT Blue Line to Kamphaeng Phet station, from which it’s a short walk into the park. If you’re making a day of it, Chatuchak Weekend Market is nearby too, though it only operates Saturdays and Sundays.
