Hat Thang Sai

Hat Thang Sai is a quiet beach in Bang Saphan district, Prachuap Khiri Khan, reached via a roughly 5 km coastal road that runs through coconut and pine groves before opening onto white sand. Entry is free, there’s no set closing time, and the beach is community-run through Ban Thang Sai village rather than developed as a resort strip.

The water here is shallow and notably clear, and Bang Saphan’s stretch of coast is known locally for shallow diving — coral reefs close enough offshore that both first-timers and certified divers use the area, though the dive sites themselves are typically reached by boat rather than a direct shore entry from Thang Sai. Rocky outcrops at either end of the beach give casual snorkelers something to look at without needing a boat trip. Locals used to call this stretch “Chaiyat Kirivong” before the current name took hold.

Ban Thang Sai village runs simple homestay accommodation a short walk from the sand — fan-cooled bamboo huts and air-conditioned rooms, with packages that bundle a night’s stay, breakfast, and a grilled seafood dinner starting from around 700 THB per person. That’s the closest thing to formal infrastructure here; there’s no strip of beach bars or restaurant row, so day-trippers should bring their own food and water rather than count on buying it beachside.

Watch out: there’s no direct public transport to Hat Thang Sai — you need your own car or motorbike, and Bang Saphan itself is a 4-6 hour drive south of Bangkok (about 380 km), so this isn’t a beach you stumble onto en route to somewhere else.

Insider Tip: Weekdays are markedly quieter than weekends, when Thai visitors from Bangkok make the drive down — if solitude is the point, avoid Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Khao Thongchai rises right beside the beach if you want a short walk with a coastal view, and Hat Ban Krut — a bigger, better-known Bang Saphan beach — is about a 3 km drive south.
