Ho Pum La Kon Museum
พิพิธภัณฑ์หอปูมละกอน
Ho Pum La Kon Museum is Lampang City Municipality’s own history museum, sitting near the clock tower roundabout in central Lampang. It’s open weekdays only — 08:30 to 16:30, Monday to Friday, closed weekends and public holidays — with free admission.
The focus is specifically on Lampang’s own story rather than northern Thailand in general. Exhibits trace the city’s development from its older name, Wiang La Korn, through the teak-logging era that once drove the local economy, with period photographs of the timber trade and the workers and merchants around it. One notable display holds ceramic plates that belonged to Chao Thip Chakr, a locally prominent noble family. Other sections cover Lampang’s ethnic Chinese community and local festival traditions, including Songkran-season water ceremonies specific to the city.
It’s a small, modern-format museum rather than a sprawling collection — multimedia panels and archival photographs do more of the storytelling than glass cases of artifacts. Labels are in Thai and English. Insider Tip: because it’s compact, 45 minutes to an hour is enough for most visitors — pair it with a walk through Kat Kong Ta, the old market street a short walk away, rather than treating the museum as a half-day stop.
Watch out: the weekday-only, 08:30-16:30 hours catch out visitors who assume a museum keeps weekend hours — plan around a weekday if this is on your Lampang itinerary, since it’s shut Saturday and Sunday.
Air-conditioned throughout, so it also works as a break from the heat during a hot-season walk around the old town. There’s no café on-site, but Lampang’s central market area is a short walk away for food afterward.
