Khao Hin Lek Fai
เขาหินเหล็กไฟ
Khao Hin Lek Fai (“Flintstone Hill”) is the main viewpoint over Hua Hin, a 162-metre hill about 3 km west of the town centre. A paved road runs all the way to the top — this is a drive-up, not a hike — where six marked viewpoints look out over the town, the Gulf coast and the countryside inland. Entry is free and it’s open from dawn to dusk. Sunrise is the pick: clear air, soft light, and the town spread out below.
The viewpoints
From the summit car park a short, flat path links the six lookouts, each facing a different way. The most popular are the one looking south toward Khao Takiab and the one facing north toward Cha-am; between them you can pick out the beach, the royal Hua Hin golf course and the historic railway station. On a clear morning the view runs out across the Gulf of Thailand. A statue of King Rama VII, credited with putting Hua Hin on the map as a royal resort, stands at the top, and there’s a small park with picnic spots.
Insider Tip: Come for sunrise rather than sunset. The viewpoint faces the town and coast to the east, so morning light is on your side and the air is at its clearest before the day’s haze builds.
Practical notes
Drive, ride a scooter or cycle up — the road is well surfaced, and there’s plenty of parking at the top. Allow 30 to 45 minutes to take in the viewpoints. Basic toilets and picnic areas are up there, but little else, so bring water.
Watch out: The resident monkeys are bold. Don’t feed them, keep food and small bags out of sight, and close your car windows when you park — they’ll help themselves given the chance.
