Lord Buddha’s Footprint Replica sits inside a hilltop mondop at Wat Khao Nang Buat, about 9 km from Nakhon Nayok town in Sarika subdistrict. Built in 1858, the footprint has drawn worshippers up the hill’s 227 concrete steps for well over a century, and an annual festival still marks it in the middle of the fifth lunar month, usually falling in April.

The mondop at the top holds the footprint itself alongside a standing Buddha image in the blessing posture and several older Buddha statues that local devotees treat as especially sacred. Khao Nang Buat rises around 100 metres, and the staircase climbs the hillside in a fairly steady grade rather than a punishing scramble — manageable for most visitors, but plan on 20-30 minutes each way with stops. From partway up, the view opens out over Sarika’s rice fields and the foothills leading toward the Khao Yai mountain range to the north.

Weekday mornings are quiet here, with just a handful of local worshippers making the climb before the heat sets in. April’s festival is the one time the hill genuinely fills up, when villagers from across the district climb together to pay respects and the temple grounds take on a fairground atmosphere with food stalls at the base.

Insider Tip: Climb before 9:00 if you can. The stairs are fully exposed to the sun once you clear the tree cover on the lower slopes, and there’s no shade at all near the top.

Watch out: Dress modestly — covered shoulders and knees — and be ready to remove your shoes before entering the mondop itself. The steps can be slippery when wet, so watch your footing after rain.

The temple sits in the same stretch of Sarika subdistrict as Namtok Sarika and Wang Takhrai park, both a short drive away — a common combination for a day trip out of Nakhon Nayok town.
