Wat Pa Si Thawon Nimit (Si Thawon Nimit Temple)

Wat Pa Si Thawon Nimit is a forest temple in Pak Phli district, in the foothills of Nakhon Nayok province rather than inside Khao Yai National Park itself, though the forested hills around it belong to the same mountain range. Spacious, tree-shaded grounds and a resident community of monks make it feel more like a meditation retreat than a sightseeing stop.

The temple’s standout structure is the Chedi Luang Boromtham, which holds a replica of the Emerald Buddha on its second floor and relics said to belong to the Buddha and to Phra Ajahn Mun Bhuridatto — one of the most revered teachers of the Thai forest meditation tradition — on the third. A large pond within the grounds, ringed by golden shower (ratchaphruek) trees, sits near Khlong Sisiat, a reservoir built at King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s initiative to serve the surrounding farmland.
