Phu Foi Lom Udon Thani

Phu Foi Lom sits on the Phu Phan Noi range in Nong Saeng district, about 45 km from Udon Thani city, within the Pan Don-Pako national reserve forest. The plateau reaches roughly 600 metres above sea level, cool enough to draw visitors escaping the Isaan lowland heat, especially from November to February. Entry is free in most current reports, open daily 6am-6pm.

Two features anchor a visit. The 60th Queen’s Birthday botanical garden collects native and rare plant species along marked paths, at its best when flowers bloom during the cool season. A separate themed section — locally called the “Million-Year World” — combines dinosaur models with a small fossil display; Udon Thani province has genuine prehistoric fossil sites elsewhere, and parks across the region lean on the dinosaur theme for family appeal. Beyond these two anchors, nature trails wind through forest cover typical of the Phu Phan foothills, with viewpoints over the surrounding countryside.

Camping areas exist on site and see the most use during the cool season alongside the garden’s bloom. Facilities and exact camping arrangements vary, so it’s worth checking current conditions locally rather than assuming a fixed setup. There’s no direct public transport to the park — a private car, motorbike, or hired driver from Udon Thani city is the practical way in. Namtok Than Ngam Forest Park, a waterfall park elsewhere in Nong Saeng district, makes a reasonable pairing if you’re already out this way; the Udon Thani City Pillar Shrine is the closest city-centre landmark on the way back in.
