Safari World
ซาฟารีเวิลด์
Safari World combines two zones in Bangkok’s Khlong Sam Wa district, on Ram Inthra Road near the city’s northeastern edge: a drive-through Safari Park where animals move through open, fenced enclosures, and a walk-through Marine Park with aquariums, an aviary, and a stadium that runs several animal shows a day. A combined ticket covering both zones runs roughly 800-1,200 THB for adults when booked online — packages often bundle lunch or a hotel transfer — while walk-up gate tickets cost more, close to 1,800 THB. The park is closed on Mondays, open 09:00-16:30 Tuesday to Friday and 09:00-17:00 on weekends.
The Safari Park is driven through in your own car or the park’s safari coach (an extra per-person fee applies for the coach), following a loop road past giraffes, zebras, ostriches, lions, tigers, and Asiatic black bears visible at close range from inside the vehicle. Windows have to stay closed through the big-cat and bear sections. The Marine Park is explored on foot: a dolphin and sea-lion show runs in the main stadium several times a day, alongside a bird show, an elephant show, and an orangutan performance where the animals are dressed in costume and made to box and dance. A reptile house, crocodile enclosure, and feeding areas sit in the adjoining Jungle Walk section, along with smaller exhibits — capybara, ring-tailed lemur, and a large macaw aviary among them — that tend to draw a thinner crowd than the main stadium.
Weigh the animal-show element before booking. Animal-welfare groups, including PETA and the Wildlife Friends Foundation of Thailand, have criticised Safari World’s orangutan and other performing-animal shows for years, and the park was at the centre of a well-known 2004 case in which Thai wildlife police seized more than 100 orangutans believed to have been smuggled into the country. If watching costumed animals perform choreographed routines doesn’t sit right, the drive-through Safari Park and the aquarium and aviary walkways don’t involve live performance and can be visited without going near the stadium shows.
Insider Tip: Head to the Safari Park loop right at opening (09:00) — coach tour groups make for the Marine Park stadium shows first, so the drive-through section is quietest in the first hour.
Watch out: Ticket prices vary a lot by sales channel — resale sites, the official ticket portal, and the walk-up gate all quote different figures, and some online packages only cover one of the two zones. Check exactly what a ticket includes before paying.
There’s no BTS or MRT line nearby. A taxi or ride-hail app from central Bangkok takes roughly 45-60 minutes depending on traffic, longer during rush hour. Many visitors combine Safari World with a half-day tour that includes hotel pickup, which avoids navigating Ram Inthra Road traffic independently. Budget at least four hours to see both zones properly, more if you plan to watch several shows back to back. The Savanna Restaurant inside the park serves a buffet lunch (often bundled into online ticket packages); bringing your own water is fine, and there’s shade in the queuing areas but little in the open Safari Park loop itself. For marine life without the live-animal shows, Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World is a walk-through aquarium in the city centre, and Siam Serpentarium covers reptiles specifically.
