Siam Serpentarium
สยาม เซอร์เพนทาเรียม
Siam Serpentarium is a snake-focused education and entertainment centre in Lat Krabang, on the eastern edge of Bangkok close to Suvarnabhumi Airport. Entry is 550 THB for foreign adults (250 THB for children) and 350 THB for Thai adults (150 THB for children); the centre is open daily, roughly 09:00–18:30.
The centre is split into three zones. The Immersive Snake Museum walks visitors through a snake’s life cycle — hatching, hunting, and reproduction — using video and staged dioramas rather than live animals. Snake Planet is the zone with real specimens: more than 70 species housed here, from a giant anaconda to a golden cobra and ball pythons, most behind glass in planted enclosures rather than bare tanks. The Naka Theatre, a 400-seat venue, runs the show that draws most repeat visitors — a staged retelling of the Garuda-versus-Naga legend followed by a live demonstration of handlers catching venomous snakes bare-handed.
It plays more like a themed edutainment park than a research institute — lighting, sound, and stagecraft are built for a family audience rather than herpetologists, and the snake-catching segment is the one part of the visit that draws an audible reaction from the crowd. Expect it to be busiest on weekends and Thai public holidays, when school groups and families fill the Naka Theatre seats; a weekday morning visit means smaller crowds around the Snake Planet enclosures.
The site is signposted off Lat Krabang, close enough to Suvarnabhumi Airport that it works as a stopover before an evening flight, with an on-site snake-themed restaurant if you want to combine the visit with a meal. If you’d rather see snakes as part of a working antivenom institute, Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute’s Snake Farm in central Bangkok runs milking demonstrations instead of a theatre show; for a broader wildlife day out, Safari World is a similar drive further out. Bring insect repellent for the outdoor sections of Snake Planet, and check the show schedule at the gate — the Naka Theatre performance runs on set times through the day rather than continuously.
Insider Tip: Time your visit around a Naka Theatre show rather than just wandering Snake Planet — the bare-hand catching demonstration is the part most visitors remember, and gate staff can tell you the next start time.
Watch out: This is a commercial snake park, not a rescue or conservation centre — don’t expect the naturalistic enclosures of a proper zoo; some tanks are compact by design.
