Sai Ri Sawi Beach

Sai Ri Sawi Beach is a quiet, mostly local beach in Chumphon’s Sawi district — not to be confused with Hat Sai Ri, a separate beach roughly 25km away near Chumphon town. The sand here has a reddish-orange tint rather than the bright white of Thailand’s better-known beaches, and the water is shallow with gentle waves. Entry is free.

The beach sits off Highway 41 in Tha Hin subdistrict, reached via a side road about 16km from the Sawi intersection, roughly a 20-minute drive. Development is minimal: a handful of food stalls and two or three small guesthouses, no resorts, no jet skis, no parasailing. That’s the appeal — it’s a beach Thai families use for an evening out rather than a stop built for tour groups. Weekday afternoons can feel close to private; weekends bring local families with picnics, especially as the light softens toward sunset.

Insider Tip: Evenings are the move here, not midday — the sunset over the Gulf is the reason most visitors come, and the food stalls are at their liveliest as the heat drops.

The shallow, gentle-wave water makes it easier for families with children than the more exposed beaches further up the coast, though it’s still open water rather than a sheltered bay — normal sea-swimming caution applies. Watch out: cash only at the local vendors, and shade is limited outside the palm-lined stretches, so bring your own if you’re staying more than an hour.

Pair a visit with Wat Phrabarommathat Sawi or Koh Kula, both also in Sawi district, for a fuller day away from Chumphon’s more touristed beaches.
