Sala Dusita Sunrise Viewpoint
จุดชมพระอาทิตย์ขึ้นศาลาดุสิตา
Sala Dusita is a small wooden sunrise pavilion in the Nong Mae Na section of Thung Salaeng Luang National Park, on the Phetchabun side of the park in Khao Kho district. It looks out over forested ridgelines that fill with a sea of mist on cool, clear mornings — a mountain-and-forest view, not the open grassland savanna the park is separately known for at Thung Nang Phaya and Thung Non Son elsewhere within its boundaries.
The sala itself is modest: a simple raised platform with a roof, built out toward open ground so the view opens up in front of it rather than through trees. Arrive in the dark and you wait with a small crowd of photographers and early risers as the sky lightens, the mist below shifting and thinning as the sun clears the ridgeline. On a good cool-season morning the valley disappears entirely under white cloud, with only the tallest ridges breaking the surface — the effect that draws people up here well before dawn. The air carries the cold, clean smell of pine and wet grass, and birdsong picks up as the light strengthens.
Getting there requires some planning. The viewpoint sits about 4 km — roughly 20 minutes — from the Nong Mae Na ranger station, along a road rough enough that most visitors go up by 4WD pickup, either their own or the park’s tourist shuttle, rather than a standard sedan. Watch out: there’s no lighting on the access road or at the sala itself, so a flashlight or phone torch is essential if you’re walking any part of it before sunrise.
Insider Tip: Check in at the Nong Mae Na ranger station the evening before if you’re staying nearby — rangers can tell you the morning’s shuttle schedule and whether mist is likely, since a clear but windy night sometimes burns it off before dawn.
